QARASE MEETS EU GROUP OVER FIJI’S POLITICAL FUTURE

Ousted prime minister expects lots of questions

SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, June 20, 2008) –Fiji’s ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase will meet the high-level EU delegation at the French Ambassador’s residence this morning.

Qarase told Fijilive the delegates have a lot of questions to ask him.

He said some of their questions included likely obstacles or problems leading to elections and some other undertakings made by the interim Government on how to take the country forward.

Qarase said there were some of the things he had to discuss with them as well.

"I will discuss the proposed People’s Charter, why we are not supporting it and that the electoral system," he said.

The changes to electoral system can only be made in a Parliament, he said.

Qarase added that he would discuss the need for a forum dialogue as well during the hour-long meeting.

Meanwhile, the TROIKA mission will have its last round of meetings today with other political party representatives, including Fiji Law Society president Isireli Fa and Methodist Church President Reverend Laisiasa Ratabacaca.
