One month away from coronation of King George Tupou V

NUKUALOFA, Tonga (Tonga Broadcasting Commission, July 1, 2008) – With just one month remaining before the Coronation of His Majesty King George Tupou 5th, all Catholic parishes around Tonga are holding Blessing services for the occasion.

The Catholic Church office at Toutaimana revealed that the Queen Mother Her Majesty Queen Halaevalu Mata’aho was present at the occasion to receive the members of the church.

The church also presented traditional gifts at the occasion.

According to information from the Toutaimana office, the occasion called for peace and Blessings for the Coronation celebrations and for the royal family.

The Catholic Church will continue with its Blessings program right through to the day of the Coronation, with the official coronation celebrations set to begin at the end of next month.

Meanwhile, the church held a special service yesterday to commemorate their Holy Year, at the Catholic Church in Ma'ufanga.

The occasion is one of the most important occasions in the church's calendar and is marked to remember Paul the Apostle and his works, as decreed by spiritual head of the Church Pope Benedict the 16th.

The church office said the service encourages peace and missionary work in taking the gospel to all corners of the world.

Yesterday also saw the Blessing of a new deacon for the church, a key spiritual position, in the lead up to the instalment of Bishop Visone Tangifua of Talafo'ou.

He will be installed at a later date
