PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (PNG Post-Courier, July 11. 2008) – Air Niugini will be basing a Dash 8 aircraft in Madang to service the Mamose and Highlands ports on a daily basis.

The change comes into effective next Tuesday.

The airline’s chief executive officer Wasantha Kumarasiri said the new schedule had been designed to meet Air Niugini’s resources and ensure the airline was able to deliver better schedule reliability as well as provide the travelling public with better travel options and connections with its international and domestic flights.

The Madang-based Dash 8 aircraft will operate between Madang, Goroka, Mt Hagen, Wewak, Vanimo and Lae with overnights in Wewak on Tuesdays and Thursdays while the aircraft will return to Madang on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The flight schedule will see a reduction in the number of F100 services to and from certain ports.

From Madang, flights have been reduced by four a week from a total 14 flights, from Port Moresby to Madang, there will be only 11 flights a week, a reduction of three flights a week, while Friday’s flight from Port Moresby to Rabaul and Buka will no longer return via Rabaul but have a direct Buka-Port Moresby service. Saturday service from Buka to Port Moresby has been cut to one.

The schedule will also see the return of jet services into Hoskins later this month and overnights of F100 aircraft in Rabaul on Fridays and Sundays.

Other domestic services have remained unchanged with slight variations in departure times.

Changes to the international schedule include the upgrade of equipment from the 94-seater Embraer 190 to the B757 on the non-stop service to Sydney.

The departure time from Port Moresby has been moved to an earlier time of 1.30pm with arrival time in Sydney at 5.25pm.
