Expected to take a month to deliver

SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, Aug. 27, 2008) - Copies of the draft People’s Charter which will be made available to every citizen in Fiji. But it will take more than a month to be delivered.

The head of the Charter Media team, Filimoni Kau, says the final copy of the document will be ready before October 10, when it is expected to be officially launched by the President Ratu Josefa Iloilo.

He said representatives from the West, North and Central divisions have been mobilized to begin the distribution of the draft Charter soon.

"People have to understand that this is not the final copy of the Charter because when a survey is brought back to us on the views of the people we will only know than where the people stand."

A survey form is expected to be distributed to the people along with the copy of the charter to get peoples views on this.

"The need to change certain things in the charter will only arise if people feel there’s a need for it," Kau said.

"Otherwise the Charter will still go ahead and be recognized by the Government despite the negative reaction from people."

Meanwhile, ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase said he believed that the Charter would not succeed with the people.

He said the Charter would be rejected at first instance with the people.
