Transparency International chief died Aug. 22

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (PNG Post-Courier, Aug. 29, 2008) – The body of Transparency International PNG boss Mike Manning will be laid to rest today at his wife’s village at Baai near Rabaul.

Mr Manning, who worked in various fields in PNG and abroad during his lifetime, died last Friday after collapsing near his home at Kenabot in Kokopo.

He had been engaged in the recent PNG Growers Association Strategic Workshop in Kokopo until his sudden death.

His body was flown to Port Moresby on Saturday for friends and those in the business community to pay their last respects.

A funeral service was held at the Sione Kami Memorial Church which was attended by family and friends including dignitaries such as Deputy Opposition leader Bart Philemon, the New Zealand and Australian diplomatic representatives, the Governor-General and some others.

The body of the late Mr Manning was brought back to Kokopo on Wednesday.
