HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, Nov. 8, 2008) – A Malaysian logging company, Organic Earth Limited, donated SB$36,719 [US$ ] to Tamboko Community in Guadalcanal yesterday.

The payment is part of the company’s special incentive towards Tamboko community for development projects.

Organic Earth was doing logging under licensee S.L.H Timber Cooperation and Kalahaki Timbers Limited.

S.L.H and Kalahaki are owned by resource owners of North West and West Guadalcanal. The company has already completed operation on S.L.H land.

It is expected to finish operation on Kalahaki land at the end of this month.

Director of Kalahaki Timbers Limited, Bernard Garo said it’s over a year now since the logging operation started and people can now do development projects on their land.

"We are very happy on what the company did to us after it logged our land. The payment is beside the 60/40 agreement signed by landowners and the company," Mr Garo said.

He said it’s now the responsibility of the landowners to properly use the money for the well-being of their community.
