Courses to be offered next year at Solomons college

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, Dec.9, 2008) – Courses in Tourism will be introduced at the Solomon Islands College of Higher Education (SICHE) next year.

Tourism Minister Seth Gukuna revealed this in parliament.

"We are commencing tourism and hospitality studies at SICHE in 2009 starting February," Mr. Gukuna said

He said the curriculum for these studies has been approved.

Gukuna added that land for the new school of tourism and hospitality has been allocated and cleared.

"It would only be a matter of time before we conduct the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of this school," he said. The minister said the decision to spend money on tourism is not just a development driven decision but investment wise.

"To me, investing in our tourism sector is not a matter of; we take it or leave it but something we really have no choice over. We must take it now," he said.
