The president-elect honored for service as ambassador to Taiwan

KOROR, Palau (Palau Horizon, Jan. 12, 2009) – President-elect Johnson Toribiong was awarded a medal of honor for his service as former ambassador of Palau to Taiwan.

Toribiong told reporters that he was recently invited to Taiwan to get the award and at the same time tender his formal resignation as Palau envoy to Taiwan.

Toribiong said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Taiwan recognized his service and lauded him for the close relationship forged while serving as ambassador.

He said he was bestowed the Order of Brilliant Jade with Grand Cordon.

Toribiong said that the relationship between the two countries have been more closer and that many programs have been instituted based on that friendly ties.

He said that he was the first and only ambassador to date which has been elected as president.

Toribiong vowed to raise the level of relationship between the two countries once he is sworn in as President.

He also said that the Taiwan government will be sending a 13-man delegation to attend inauguration.
