WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, January 22, 2009) – Fiji authorities now estimates that about 137,000 people need relief food assistance - a week after the country was his by devastating floods.

Fijivillage reports that 44 schools have been affected by the floods.

And it is now being reported that four villages in the interior of Western Viti Levu have been cut off because a bridge was washed away.

This comes amid concern that more inclement weather is about to affect Fiji, with further flash flooding expected in the next few days.
