HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, Jan. 26, 2009) - Two candidates have been nominated to contest the premier’s post in Temotu Province today.

This was after premier Johnson Levela was ousted in the vote of no confidence last Wednesday. A spokeman from Lata provincial headquarters, Ben Te’ai, said the two camps have nominated their candidates before nominations closed midday Friday.

The candidates are Edward Daiwo, who moved the motion, and Patrick Bekolo, who was nominated by Mr.Levela’s camp.

Ten members of the 17-member Temotu Provincial Assembly voted in support of the motion that deposed Levela.

Seven put their support behind the ousted premier.

Mr. Te’ai said if Levela’s group is to come back to power, they need to lure back two members that made an 11th hour switch to the non-executive side.
