Charged with arson in burning of private residence

APIA, Samoa (Samoa Observer, Feb. 22, 2009) - The Supreme Court is to deliver a verdict on six matai of Matautu, Falelatai, who will stand trial for arson on 5 March.

The accused are Lupematasila Fa΄amanu Ivara, 49, Misa Gaga΄e, 51, Lupematasila Saipani, 56, Nanai Siaki, 43, Nanai Ve’a, 53, and Filipo Fa’asavalu Tino, 30.

Witnesses for the prosecution completed giving evidence yesterday.

Last Thursday Chief Justice Patu Tiava΄asu΄e Falefatu Sapolu gave the defence and prosecution seven days to submit their final submissions in writing.

The six defendants were charged after the destruction by fire of the residence of Misa Iuli Pita Anae on 15 July 2005.
