Appointee presents sua in appreciation

APIA, Samoa (Samoa Observer, Mar. 22, 2009) - New Secretary for the Head of State, Logo Silao Lemana, with his family and His Highness the Head of State, Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese Efi at his residence in Tuaefu.

The newly appointed Secretary of the Head of State, Logo Silao Lemana, honoured the country’s top leaders last Friday with traditional tokens of appreciation or sua.

Logo was confirmed by Cabinet on 11 March, 2009 as the new Secretary for His Highness the Head of State, Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese Efi.

He is "humbled to be appointed the new Secretary for the Head of State" and thankful for the trust which the Head of State and Prime Minister Tuilaepa Lupesoli’ai Sa’ilele Malielegaoi have placed in him, he said.

As a token of his gratitude, Logo and his children, who reside in Pago Pago, presented sua to both leaders at their individual residences in Tuaefu and Siusega, respectively.

His Highness thanked Logo’s family and wished him the best in his new post.

Speaking of the role of Secretary, Tuilaepa said, "It’s not a position the Cabinet selects by themselves, all decisions for many positions that the Cabinet has to approve are from God.

"I wish you well for your new post," the Prime Minister added.

Secretary Logo has lived in New Zealand much of his 82 year-long-life but returned to Samoa in March last year. Given his new post he intends to make the move permanent.

Logo Silao Lemana was a former Airport Manager at the Civil Aviation Division of the Ministry of Transport at Faleolo International Airport. He was also a Justice of Peace for New Zealand and is a matai (orator) of Leulumoega village.

He was born 19 February, 1937 and is the son of the late Lemana Atonio and Kolotita Potoi Lemana Leiataua. He and his wife Sinaletuli McCarthy have 10 children.

The new Secretary’s educational history and professional background is extensive. Logo was educated at Marist Brother’s High School, Lotopa.

He received a Certificate of NZ Aeronautical Communications Officer in Morse Sending/Receiving and Typing, Communications Procedures, Radio Regulations, Manipulation of Radio Equipment, Air Traffic Services, Meteorology, Navigation, Radio Aids to Navigation 1969, Air Traffic Services Training Familiarisation in NZ at the Queenstown, Rotorua and Whangarei Airports, and the Nadi International Airport in Fiji, 1972; Australian Development Aid Programme in Sydney – Course in Middle Management 1980, Auckland Institute of Technology – Course in Counselling and Guidance for Pacific Island Community Workers 1991.
