Bainimarama will be gone for nearly a week

SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, March 25, 2009) – Fiji’s interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama flew out of the country this morning on a 6-day trip to India.

A Government statement today said Bainimarama would inspect facilities at the Batra Hospital for overseas medical treatment of RFMF personnel.

The statement said the interim PM would also have an opportunity to conclude discussions with the Indian government on the purchase of a property made available to Fiji for the construction of a chancery in New Delhi.

Bainimarama will also meet with India’s Minister for External Affairs Shri Pranab Mukerjee.

Interim Defence Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau will be acting PM in Bainimarama’s absence.

Bainimarama is accompanied by his wife, Mary, newly appointed Public Service Commission (PSC) permanent secretary Parmesh Chand, and a personal security officer.

The trip is funded by the Indian government.
