Naupto to ensure Bainimarama receive ‘best advice’

SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Sun, March 26, 2009) – Newly appointed permanent secretary to the Prime Minister’s office Commander Viliame Naupto is ready to ensure one of the highest offices in the land performs up to par.

Speaking to the Fiji SUN yesterday, after his second day in office, Mr Naupoto said while the timing of the appointment could be considered difficult, he was prepared for the challenges.

"This might be one of the most difficult times for Fiji and for the rest of the world because of the global economic state. But I am prepared to lead the team at hand and I know they are capable people," he said.

Mr Naupoto said the biggest challenges for him would be to ensure Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama was given the best advice and his office ran smoothly.

"For me the biggest challenges would be ensuring the PM gets the best advice on important issues and the office runs without a hiccup," he said.

"But I believe in the team at hand as they are a bunch of very capable people."

He said his most immediate priority would be to learn the job quickly as he had big shoes to fill.

"A challenge for me personally would be to grow into the big shoes lefty empty by the former PS Parmesh Chand who is a seasoned civil servant. It’s a challenge but it is one that I am up to," Mr Naupoto said.

"Challenges are meant to be overcome and that is exactly what I am going to do," he said.
