Defeats South Africa 26-24

SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, March 29, 2009) – Fiji’s national 7s team bewildered South Africa 26-24 to lap up the sweet rewards of victory at the Hong Kong 7s today.

The Iliesa Tanivula-coached side displayed remarkable discipline under enormous pressure and unflinching defence, especially as they were down one man twice in the game, to end Fiji's 10-year winless drought at So Kon Po stadium

While experienced hands Emosi Vucago, Nasoni Roko and skipper Vereniki Goneva played an integral part in the team's victory, it was the relatively new kids on the block Seremaia Burotu, Pio Tuwai and Orisi Sareki who stood out for their superb play.

2nd Half_ 2.51mins, Burotu (26-12); 3.50mins, (SA) Vuyo Zangqa (19-26); 5.13mins, Roko sinbinned; 9.20mins, Goneva sinbinned, (SA) Lionel Mapoe (24-26).
