Fundraiser to feature Samoan songs off his CD

APIA, Samoa (Samoa Observer, March 29, 2009)—Fulltime member of the United States Congress and part-time singer Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin, is booked for a performance in Apia on 18 April.

The occasion is an Ailao Club Fundraising Show at the Laumei Faiaga.

"The Club is very excited at the prospect of putting together a show with Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin," said Leota Lene Leota, founder of the Ailao Club.

Faleomavaega has a very popular CD of Samoan songs to his credit. It was released in 2005.

A spokesman of the Congressman’s office in American Samoa, told Sunday Samoan, all the songs had the same beat.

The beat was one intended to allow listeners to dance the Samoan siva to, he said.

Leota said there was a possibility a second CD by Faleomavaega will be launched at the fundraising show.

The show will also feature the Ailao Club Dancers.

Proceeds from the show are to be donated to the Ailao Club to assist with the staging of the 8th International Siva Afi Competition in June this year.

Rumour has it that the founder of the Ailao Club will also take to the stage on the night, performing his fire knife dance for the first time since he hung up his knives many years ago.

The popular entertainment venue, Laumei Faiaga is to host the event with a limited number of tickets available for a buffet dinner and show on Saturday 18th April 2009.

Faleomavaega has been representing the territory of American Samoa in the United States Congress since 1989.

Re-elected in November, 2008 to an 11th term by the people of American Samoa, he is the longest serving and only Samoan in the U.S. Congress.
