2010 event expects 70 million visitors

PAPEÉTE, Tahiti (Tahitipresse, May 11, 2009)—French Polynesia Tourism officials announced that Tahiti and Her Islands will take part in the next World Exposition scheduled in 2010 in Shanghai, China.

The World Expo will take place from May 1 to October 31, 2010.

Shanghai Expo organizers expect no less than 70 millions visitors. There should be about 200 stands from different countries.

This will be "a true opportunity to promote Tahiti's image", French Polynesia Tourism officials said.

French Polynesia will join the Pavilion devoted to Pacific nations. But Tahiti and Her Islands' promotion will also be found in the French Pavilion, along with New Caledonia.

A special committee has been created by French Polynesia Tourism minister Jacqui Drollet to see exactly how Tahiti and Her Islands will participate.

Tahitian culture, handicrafts and pearls will be found at the Shanghai Expo, Tourism officials added.
