Prime minister and opposition leader express support

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, June 17, 2009) – Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua and the Leader of Opposition Manasseh Sogavare both congratulated the newly elected Governor General designate Frank Ofagioro Kabui moments after the results were announced on Monday.

Speaking at the floor of Parliament, Dr Sikua said a message must be conveyed to the Queen about the support from the Member of Parliament for the new head of state and representative of the Queen.

He also said the nation must unite to support the new elected GG designate.

Similarly, Mr. Sogavare said Mr. Kabui was elected by the Parliament, which represents people of this country, therefore the support for him to unite this nation must be accorded.

Foreign Affairs Minister William Haomae, on behalf of his people and chiefs of Small Malaita, also congratulated Kabui on his new appointment.

He said the nation and its leaders must also support the role and leadership to be taken by Kabui to the highest position of this nation.
