Faisauvale arrested on undisclosed charges

APIA, Samoa (Samoa Observer, August 19, 2009) - A custody hearing for suspected drug lord Tagaloasa Filipaina Faisauvale was set down for this afternoon.

The prosecution objected to bail where the accused made an appearance in the Supreme Court yesterday after being arrested on Saturday 8 August.

Relatives of the accused became enraged at not being allowed into the court room yesterday.

A policeman denied entry to members of the public when the court room became full yesterday morning. One of the relatives, a woman, smacked the officer at the door in the face with her hand fan.

Other officers were abused verbally. Relatives of the accused also tried to stop journalists taking photographs of him.

Defence counsel Rosella Papali’i will today submit arguments for the release on bail of Tagaloasa.

Two others were arrested with him – a juvenile and Fuge S Lomitusi who were each granted bail.

The charges against the three men were not mentioned in court yesterday.

The case was adjourned to 31 August for Police to finalize charges.

The juvenile’s next court appearance will be in the Youth Court because of his age.
