22 new titleholders blessed in ceremonies

By Marieta Heidi Ilalio APIA, Samoa (Samoa Observer, Sept. 13, 2009) - Title bestowments postponed four times were completed yesterday.

But this was without the presence of high ranking Chief of Moata΄a village, Asi Tunupopo Teve.

In fact the village of Moata΄a decided to go ahead with the ceremonies without the presence of three chiefs of the Asi Falana΄ipupu family who are ostracized from the village.

They are Taumanupepe Teleso, Lipoi Falepo and Lalaulu Siaki. This matter delayed the bestowment and made the reverend wait for almost two hours. Despite these problems, the ceremonies were completed peacefully.

The blessing of the 22 new titleholders of Asi Falana΄ipupu family was done by Rev. Elder Taiapisi Leilua of the Congregational Christian Church of Moata΄a. The reason for the bestowments was a wish from the Late Asi Falana΄ipupu before he died for these 22 members to become new matais to serve not only the family, but the village and church.

The whole village and the constituency were present to witness this special occasion. These are the new titleholders:

Falana΄ipupu Puletiu Atoa Papaloloa; Falana΄ipupu Perelini Suafa Atimalala; Falana΄ipupu Penetekoso To΄o; Falana΄ipupu Gardenia Tina; Atimalala Taule΄ale΄ausumai; Falana΄ipupu Eteuati; Fa΄asavaliga Atimalala Coffin; Falana΄ipupu Tafuna΄i Uitaoa Alaelua; Falana΄ipupu Liumaila Fa΄amasunu Taula; Falana΄ipupu Fa΄animo Aloei Taula; Falana΄ipupu Pulusila Otele Matamu; Falana΄ipupu Uimaituamali΄i Moemai
