SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, September 21, 2009) – Two weeks after declaring his government’s position on general elections to a Commonwealth delegation, Fiji’s Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama will address the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week on the same subject.

"I look forward to addressing the United Nations General Assembly on the current progress the country is making and also the timelines that we have set through the Strategic Framework for Change and Roadmap to Democracy," Bainimarama said in a government statement.

He will attend the 64th session of the UN General Assembly in New York this week and contribute to the annual general debate from the 23-26 and 28-30 September.

As Minister for Finance, Bainimarama is also expected to attend the 2009 annual meetings of the Istanbul Boards of Governors for the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund on October 6-7 in Turkey, a government statement said today.

Thousands of world economic leaders and businessmen are expected to be in Istanbul to attend the IMF/World Bank Summit.
