Honiara hopes to learn from Port Vila sister city

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, Dec. 9, 2009) – The mayor of Vanuatu’s capital Port Vila, Willie Pakoa Saatearoto, and his counterpart from the Solomon Islands capital, Honiara, Andrew Moa, have established a formal relationship between the cities.

Under the agreement signed this week the two municipalities have agreed to develop their cultural interaction.

Mr Moa plans also to follow the Port Vila example and create a council of chiefs for the city of Honiara.

He says Honiara could learn a lot from Port Vila and how its council of chiefs has helped police to defuse tensions.
