Korman cancels meetings, prevents discussion

MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, 15, 2009) – The speaker of Vanuatu's parliament has stopped another vote on removing him from his position.

Maxime Carlot Korman was one of the politicians removed from the government coalition nearly a month ago.

But so far he has halted any debate, or vote, on replacing him.

Alain Simeon from Vanuatu Broadcasting says due to pending court action over his blocking of debate last week, he was able to block it again.

"He has called off [Tuesday] afternoon's sitting, and adjourned the meeting till Wednesday," he said.

Wednesday's sitting will go ahead after the courts decide the legality of Mr Carlot Korman's attempts to block his removal from the speaker's seat.
