No justification given by President’s office

SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, Jan. 4, 2010) - The Fiji government has terminated the contracts of three recently-appointed magistrates.

The contracts of Mary Muir, Elsie Hudson and Eparama Rokoika have been terminated by the Office of the President, the Attorney-General’s Office has confirmed.

No reason has been given.

The three were among new appointments to the bench late last year as part of a reconstituted judiciary following the abrogation of the 1997 Constitution in April.

Two other magistrates sworn-in at that time, including then Chief Magistrate Ajmal Gulab Khan, also had their contracts terminated later in the year.
