Bainimarama cites one of many China projects

SUVA, Fiji (FijiSUN, May 19, 2010) - Grant has already been allocated by the Chinese government for the fencing of government house.

This was confirmed by Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday.

He said this was one of the many projects China and government have initiated in the country.

An implementation contract on the government house fencing project was signed by government and the Chinese company China Railway Wuju Group earlier in the year.

The project was initiated in 2008 by Ratu Josefa Iloilo, the then Fiji President and later endorsed by both government and China.

The fencing is about 2,447 meters long and expected to be completed within nine months from the commencement date.

China Wuju Group had financed and builds the two-lane Navuso Bridge.

The company has already begun ground works on the project. Apart from this, the Chinese government is expected to provide grant for the relocation for the Navua Hospital.

Fiji’s roving ambassador Ratu Tui Cavuilati said the Chinese government was awaiting Commodore Bainimarama before the next move.

Commodore Bainimarama will be in China for the World Expo in August and Ratu Tui said a decision would probably be reached then.

Commodore Bainimarama in an earlier interview had said that the Chinese and Indian governments were always willing to help Fiji in any development that would provide positive outcomes for the people.
