HISTORIC HMS ‘BOUNTY’ UP FOR SALE: $5 MILLION Square-rigger built for 1960 film classic ‘Mutiny’

PAPEÉTE, Tahiti (Tahitipresse, June 1, 2010) - HMS Bounty, a classical square-rigged yachting, is for sale. The ship is a celebrated piece of cinema, having featured in films such as Treasure Island, Mutiny on the Bounty, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

HMS Bounty is for sale approximately US$4.9 million, according to superyachts.com

HMS Bounty is designed to accommodate 12 passengers and 18 crew members on her voyages.

The ship was built in 1960 in Canada after being commissioned by MGM Studios.

She was built for the film Mutiny on the Bounty, starring Marlon Brando, replicating the original HMS Bounty yacht built in 1784, which was the scene of the real, famed ‘Mutiny on the Bounty,’ super yachts reports on its website.

The HMS Bounty was originally a three-masted ship, which was destroyed in 1790, off Pitcairn Island.

The replica tall-ship HMS Bounty measures 54m and holds the same classic maritime style as the original.

HMS Bounty underwent a major three-phase restoration project from 2001 to 2006 after being purchased by the HMS Bounty Organisation LLC.

During the second phase, in Alabama, nine of her sails and her rigging were replaced in time for her debut in Disney’s "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest."

By 2006 the refit was complete and HMS Bounty went on a world tour in 2007.

The Bounty traveled from Novia Scotia to Britain, and then recreated Captain Bligh’s original voyage of the Bounty in 1787, stopping in New Zealand and Tahiti in October 2008.

After the trip to Tahiti, the crew then traveled to Pitcairn Island, and finally returned to the US through the Panama Canal in January 2009.

John Ryan, of WME Yachts, says he wants to find the "right buyer" for this ship.

"Anyone who can cherish and value this kind of vessel and its history would be ideal and someone who understands how to use her commercially," Ryan told superyachts.com.
