Military officially takes control

SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Sun, Aug. 1, 2010) – Eleven main stream media companies have registered themselves in accordance with the newly enforced Media Industry Development Decree that came into effect last month.

Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed -Khaiyum said the companies have submitted their applications for registrations. They are:

The last day for registration was July 27.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said some are still giving in their registration details and Government is still receiving them.

"There are still some other media representatives who have been filling their registration details.

"In respect of these details and how they are going to be dealt with, or the scrutiny of it, will be done by the Fiji Media Industry Development Authority as provided for under the decree," he said.

The new Media Industry Development Authority of Fiji highlighted that every media organisation that provides or intends to provide media services in Fiji must be registered.
