Shipping booked to outlying islands

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, Aug. 2, 2010) – Shipping services in the country are experiencing influx of passengers traveling home to cast their ballot in the national general election on Wednesday.

Late yesterday evening four ships the MV Bikoi II, LC Dragon, MV Solomon one and MV Estrella were fully loaded with registration voters from the villages.

Onboard the MV Bikoi II are voters from Gizo /Kolobaranga, VelalaVela and Shortland constituencies while onboard LC Dragon are voters for North Malaita constituency.

Onboard MV Solomon One are voters from East Guadalcanal and on the MV Estrella are Hograno/Kia/Havulei.

On Saturday night Solfish one left for Renell and Bellona, MV Isabel to Gao/Bogutu constituency and MV Bikio 1 to the Western province.

All these trips were fully booked.

In the previous week numbers of ship were also filled as people turn their eyes to vote for their intending candidates at home.

Total candidates contesting for this national election is 508.

This is the highest number of candidate being contested in the history of Solomon Islands.

Meanwhile candidates are underway with their campaign programs in their various constituencies.
