Matia Toafa led nation from 2004 to 2006

MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, Sept. 29, 2010) – Tuvalu's Governor General has declared Matia Toafa the island's new Prime Minister after he secured eight votes in a secret ballot.

Mr Toafa defeated Kausea Natano who secured seven votes.

Prime Minister Toafa is yet to name his cabinet.

He was Tuvalu's Prime Minister from 2004 until 2006 and the Leader of the Opposition for the last four years.
