Hawaii conference explores past, present, future

MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, November 8, 2010) – Pacific Studies has been offered at the University of Hawai'i now for six decades and to celebrate the university has been holding an international conference to examine the state of Pacific Studies and the way forward in the future.

There are now more than a dozen Pacific Studies centres in Oceania, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, as well as several countries in Europe.

From the conference venue Jemima Garrett is joined by conference organiser, Terence Wesley-Smith, Professor of Pacific Island Studies at the University of Hawaii, Greg Dvorak, Research Fellow at the University of Tokyo, and Katerina Teaiwa, Senior Lecturer and Pacific Studies convenor at the Australian National University.
