6.9 QUAKE STRIKES OFF PNG’S NEW BRITAIN

No reported damage in Wednesday event

MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, Dec. 1, 2010) – A 6.9 magnitude earthquake has struck off Papua New Guinea.

The US Geological Survey website says the quake struck 35 kilometres northeast of New Britain Island, at a depth of 32 kilometres.

So far there've been no reports of damage and no tsunami warnings have been issued.
