Lord Tu’ivakano charged with reckless driving

NUKUALOFA, Tonga (Matangi Tonga, Jan. 18, 2011) – In Tonga, the Prime Minister, Lord Tu'ivakano was dismissed on one count of reckless driving due to insufficient evidence in a judgment delivered by Magistrate Salesi Mafi at the Fasi Magistrate's Court this morning, January 18.

Police Prosecutor Mema Latu said Lord Tu'ivakano was not present in court but was represented by his counsel Matai'ulua Fusitu'a.

He said Lord Tu'ivakano was charged in relation to an incident in August 2010 at Veitongo in which it was claimed that he drove recklessly resulting in his vehicle hitting the back of a car.

No one was hurt in the incident, said the police prosecutor.
