CHINA GIVES $50,000 TO VANUATU CYCLONE RELIEF

Cyclone Vania caused $11 million damage in January

PORT VILA, Vanuatu (Vanuatu Daily Post, March 13, 2011) - Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu, Cheng Shuping Friday morning handed VUV4, 643,149.87 [US$50,000] relief aid money to Internal Affairs Minister Dunstan Hilton as China reaffirms its commitment to victims of the recent cyclones battering Vanuatu, in particular cyclone Vania too. Ambassador Shuping expressed a deep sympathy towards the people and communities in Tafea province who suffered great loss and damage and hopes the donation will speed up their recovery progress.

In response Minister Hilton conveyed the gratitude of the Vanuatu government and people which reflects the strong ties between Vanuatu and China.

The Chinese Government reacted quickly to the Vanuatu government’s request for emergency aid in cash by transferring US$50,000 to the account given by the Vanuatu government.
