‘We can realize our dreams, aspirations’

By Nanise Loanakadavu SUVA, Fiji (FijiSUN, April 1, 2011) - The presence of the Melanesian leaders demonstrates their commitment to Melanesian solidarity and unity

Prime Minister and Chairman of the 18th Melanesian Spearhead Group Leaders Summit, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama made this statement while welcoming his Melanesian colleagues at the Vale Ni Bose in Suva yesterday.

"Your presence reflects our common belief that together as a region we can realize the needs and aspirations of all our peoples," Commodore Bainimarama said.

Commodore Bainimarama challenged all the leaders that progress lies not in enhancing what is, but in advancing toward what will be.

He said it was imperative to be progressive and to be strong and that they should have a vision.

"We cannot simply tread where we have been. We must be bold enough to recognize what has been, where we are and where we want to be. It means making paradigm shifts," Commodore Bainimarama said.

He said all these changes means taking new steps in new areas.

He said the realization of these objectives means being bold, being assertive but at the same time being just and fair.
