Eight 787 Dreamliners won’t be purchased

MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, April 14, 2011) - Fiji’s Air Pacific has cancelled an order for eight Boeing 787 aircraft.

The US aerospace giant says Air Pacific is no longer a Boeing 787 customer.

The decision by the Fijian airline is another blow to Boeing.

The publication Aviation Week earlier reported that Air Pacific, the official international airline of Fiji, had cancelled orders for five Dreamliners placed in 2006 and three in 2008.

The 787 program has been beset by technical problems that have delayed the timetable for delivery of the inaugural aircraft to All Nippon Airways by three years.

Boeing says it recognizes that Air Pacific’s evolving business model has affected its fleet requirements.
