Airline has Guam-Hong Kong, seeks Manila-Saipan

By Gemma Q. Casas SAIPAN, CNMI (Marianas Business Journal, ) – Fly Guam, the newest airline in the Marianas, will launch in July daily charter flights from Nagoya, Japan to Saipan.

Carlos Santos, managing partner of Fly Guam, said the daily charter flights between Nagoya and Saipan will use a Boeing 737 aircraft which can carry up to 144 passengers.

"We are going to try to be competitive. We already have a service between Guam and Hong Kong. We also want to add some more destinations like Saipan to Manila. And we’re going to increase our frequency between Guam to Saipan and from Guam, we’re going to start flying to Palau," Santos told the Journal.

Santos said the company, which began serving the Marianas route early this year, sees growth in Micronesia when it comes to tourism.

"They (airlines) are pulling out of this market because of so many considerations. But we think that there’s a huge market that these airlines are leaving empty so we want to fill that space," he said.

In an earlier interview with the Journal, Fly Guam Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Stern disclosed the airline’s plan to fly new routes in Palau and the Philippines.
