MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, June 14, 2011) – Chinese investors have presented details of a plan to build a major new urban centre on Papua New Guinea's island of Bougainville.

The Autonomous Bougainville Government and the Bougainville Business Association have been briefed on the proposal.

Bougainville's President John Momis told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat the plans include a special economic zone.

"They are responding to our call for foreign investors to invest in Bougainville to help the ABG and the Bougainville people to develop their huge natural resources," Mr Momis said. "By doing so it will enable the Bougainvillians to be the beneficiaries of the development off their resources."
