Pensioner Burness can’t live on reduced payments

MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, June 30, 2011) – There has been a rush to join legal action in Fiji before a decree to implement pension cuts is formally proclaimed on Friday.

The action, brought by 75-year-old pensioner David Burness, seeks an independent judicial inquiry into the management and pension cut plans put forward by the National Provident Fund.

Fiji's courts have not yet set a date to hear Mr Burness' urgent request for an interim injuction to stop the decree.

He says he could no manage if the pension was cut.
