NEW CALEDONIA LEADS GAMES WITH 32 GOLD MEDALS

Nearest rival, Tahiti, has 16

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, Sept. 1, 2011) – Host New Caledonia continues to collect medals at a healthy rate at the Pacific Games while 11 countries have stepped onto the medal dias.

New Caledonia has 32 gold medals, twice as many as the nearest rival, Tahiti, while the host has 78 medals in total.

After four full days of competition Fiji is third on the medal table with 11 while Papua New Guinea has 8.

Today the cricket final between Papua New Guinea and Fiji will be played while medals will decided at the rugby sevens.
