French Polynesia president Temaru leads delegation to Auckland

MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, Sept. 5, 2011) – Polynesian politicians have arrived in Auckland to seek the backing of the Pacific Islands Forum and the United Nations in their bid for independence from France.

President Oscar Temaru said he is seeking a resolution of support from the forum in New Zealand.

He has sought the Pacific Islands Forum's backing in the past to be added to the United Nations' list of countries for decolonisation.

But this is the first time he has come with a resolution passed by a majority of the French Polynesian assembly for such a move.
