George Tupou IV making good recovery in Los Angeles hospital

MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, Sept. 9, 2011) – Tongan King George Tupou V has had surgery in Los Angeles to remove his right kidney after a tumour was found.

The Pacific island monarch went under the knife at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre and is expected to return home on Saturday.

The Matangi Tonga website said the king will first fly to Auckland on Friday where he will catch up with the Tongan rugby team and wish them luck ahead of their World Cup opener against New Zealand.

"The king has made a good recovery following that procedure and will return to Los Angeles in a few weeks' time for follow-up consultations," private secretary David Dunkley said.
