VANUATU OPPOSITION LEADER VOHOR RUSHED TO SYDNEY HOSPITAL Four-time prime minister has swelling in leg

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, Nov. 3, 2011) – Vanuatu’s opposition leader, Serge Vohor, has been flown to Sydney for urgent medical treatment.

The acting Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Moana Carcasses, says Vohor’s condition is quite serious, but he won’t give any details.

Sources in Port Vila say Vohor has a swelling on his leg.

[PIR editor’s note: Vohor has served as prime minister four times and is a senior member of the Union of Moderate Parties in Vanuatu, a conservative, France-aligned coalition. Preparations were made for Vohor to fly to Australia to receive medical treatment for an unspecified condition in late October. Carcasses said the condition was "serious" and had been told by hospital staff at the Port Vila Central Hospital to facilitate evacuation for Vohor to Sydney.]
