More than 5,000 have signed on-line petition of support

PAPEETE, Tahiti (Tahitipresse, Dec. 27, 2011) – The fate of the website Tahitipresse is to be decided this week. An important board of trustees meeting is to take place this Wednesday.

The French Polynesian government has decided last September to close the public establishment Agence Tahitienne de Presse at the end of this year.

However, private companies might be interested to see the website Tahitipresse continue.

The board of trustees of the Agence Tahitienne de Presse is to discuss this very important issue.

More than 5 000 persons have signed so far the on-line petition to support Tahitipresse.

A survey conducted over the last weeks also showed that most readers wanted access to Tahitipresse to remain free.

The Tahitipresse website has been launched more than ten years ago, in April 2001.

[PIR editors note: French Polynesia's government announced their decision to do away with Tahitipresse early in September2011, but Tahitipresse's staff said the measure was brought about without warning or explanation.]
