No plans to lift sanctions against government

By Nasik Swami SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, Jan. 11, 2012) - The Australian government says it needs to see real changes in Fiji before lifting any targeted sanctions.

Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd said while the Public Emergency Regulations has been lifted more concrete changes are needed.

"What we have is a whole pattern of behaviour on behalf of the regime towards its church leaders, trade union leaders, political opponents and the media," he told Radio Australia.

He said the sanctions were aimed at Fiji’s government not the people of Fiji.
