Lady Viniana Ganilau celebrated for community work, volunteering

SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, March 7, 2012) – Fiji's former first lady, Lady Viniana Ganilau was today fare-welled by hundreds in Suva in a moving funeral ceremony.

Lady Ganilau, the wife of former President, the late Ratu Sir Penaia Ganilau, died at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva last Wednesday after a long illness. She was 75.

She was a registered New Zealand nurse and served as a midwife and matron for 35 years.

She was involved with many voluntary organizations and community worker.

Lady Viniana is survived by her only daughter Adi Waqa Varea.

A public gathering was held at the Wesley City Mission Church today, followed by a burial service at the Vatuwaqa Cemetery in Suva.
