Villagers appeared ready to confront police

APIA, Samoa (Talamua, May 7, 2012) – A male villager of Satapuala is dead reportedly shot by Police during a raid early this morning.

Three police officers are also being treated at the National Hospital for gunshot wounds.

Initial reports say the Police vehicles arrived and were met by gun shots to their cars and it seemed the villagers were ready for the police when they arrived.

The Police Commissioner and senior staff have been meeting all morning and will call a press conference later today.

Satapuala is the breeding ground for marijuana that Police have been trying for years to stop.

A police constable, Malo Samu was shot dead at the village in the mid 1970s during another police raid.
