Sikua says all reports have been submitted

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, June 2, 2012) – The Member of Parliament for North East Guadalcanal and Opposition Leader, Dr Derek Sikua has refuted the claim by the Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of Rural Development that he has not submitted the acquittals for the Republic of China-funded Rural Development funds for his constituency for 2011.

Dr Sikua said for the benefit of chiefs, community leaders and people of his North East Guadalcanal Constituency, the acquittals for the first tranche of $300,000.00 and the third tranche of $400,000.00 had already been submitted to the Ministry of Rural Development.

He said as to the second tranche of $300,000.00, the Ministry of Rural Development was only able to release the two final two payments for Micro Projects Development and Millennium Development Goal last month hence acquittals are still being finalized for submission to the ministry as soon as these funds are being fully disbursed.

The North East Guadalcanal MP and Opposition Leader said another important factor worth noting by the Prime Minister is that the ROC funds for the North East Guadalcanal Constituency had not been disbursed until after the constituency’s congress and polling station chairpersons committee meetings approved the constituency’s 2011 budget in July last year.

He said the delay in expending funds was due to his engagement with his election petition case which started in March 2011.
