Over 18,000 Residents Register For Fiji Elections

640,000 expected before end of registration period

SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, July 9, 2012) – A total of 18,058 people have been registered after the first week of Fiji’s voter registration process.

This was confirmed to FijiLive by the Fiji Elections Office.

The elections office after last night recorded 6,970 in the greater Suva area, 5,347 in Nausori, 2,682 in Labasa, 1,791 in Lautoka and Nadi, 979 in Levuka and only 289 in Taveuni.

Since the beginning of the registration the Elections office recorded 2,475 registrations in the first day, 3,382 in the second day, 3,267 in the third, 3365 in the fourth day, 3,238 in the fifth day and 2,031 last night in all registration centers around the country.

Seven weeks is now left for people to register and government is urging all Fijians to register at the nearest registration centers.

The Elections office is expected to register 640,000 people within the eight weeks of registration.

The registration process will end on August 31.
