Council suggests $63 increase to national minimum wage

PORT VILA, Vanuatu (Vanuatu Daily Post, July 19, 2012) – The Tripartite Labour Advisory Council (TLAC) is inviting the public to submit written serious comments or proposals after inspecting a proposed Vt30, 000 [US$319.66] Minimum Wage proposal document at the Department of Labour.

The TLAC advised that it has considered the quarterly Consumer Price Index (CPI) released by the Reserve Bank of Vanuatu and considers it reasonable that the 12.9 percent increase in the current CPI warrants an increase.

It is proposing an increase of the current Minimum Wages from Vt26, 000 [US$277.04] to Vt30, 000 not Vt32,000 [US$340.97] as stated previously by the Internal Affairs Minister. As obliged under the Minimum Wages & Minimum Wages Board Act [CAP 182] the TLAC is submitting its proposal of Vt30, 000 to the public within 8 days in advance with effect from yesterday, July 16.

The closing date for all submissions is 4:30pm, July 23 2012 and should be addressed to: The Chairman, Tripartite Labour Advisory Council, PMB 9022, Port Vila.
