Auckland Conference To Promote Investment In Samoa

Infrastructure, other projects to be highlighted at investSAMOA

APIA, Samoa (Samoa Observer, Sept. 9, 2012) – A conference called "investSAMOA" to be held in Auckland presents an exciting opportunity for the world to invest in a piece of paradise.

Organized by the New Zealand Samoa Trade and Investment Commission and sponsored by the Pacific Cooperation Foundation (PCF),the conference will be held at the Pullman Hotel on 20 and 21 September.

A number of key areas for prospective investors will be covered during the conference, which is being convened by former Minister of Foreign Affairs Sir Don McKinnon and hosted by Samoa’s Prime Minister, TuilaepaSa’ileleMalielegaoi.

Auckland Mayor Taua’aletoaLen Brown will also speak in the opening session.

"This conference is an exciting opportunity for businesses and individuals who are interested in investing and working in Samoa," says PCF CEO Meg Poutasi.

"Several infrastructure opportunities will be presented and issues crucial for potential investors will be covered including land reform, manufacturing, agriculture and fisheries, commerce, industry and labour, finance, revenue and customs, and tourism.

"The presenters leading the discussions are all experts in their fields in Samoa and are being brought to Auckland especially for the conference," she adds.

"They will represent organisations like the Samoa Tourism Industry, Samoa Association of Manufacturers and Exporters, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, and the Banking Association of Samoa."

In addition, 16 projects and investment opportunities have been compiled, and the second day will be devoted to consultations around these.

There conference delegates will have the opportunity to discuss the projects in greater detail and have questions answered.

Several infrastructure projects will be presented and there are several investment opportunities in the tourism sector, ranging from tourist infrastructure projects, such as resort (re)development, to activities strongly related to tourism, including national park development, an eco spa and an adventure centre.

The remaining projects revolve around manufacturing and agricultural development. There are opportunities to invest in Samoa’s iconic cocoa product, Koko Samoa, in cocoa and coconut plantation development, herbal teas and natural food snacks, the production of gluten-free breadfruit flour and in the manufacturing of frangipani oil.

The Unit Trust of Samoa presents an opportunity to invest in Samoa’s growing finance sector.

"The speakers and projects have been specially identified to inform investors about the best opportunities that exist and how they can get involved.
